Photo competitions foster an atmosphere of creativity and competitiveness while promoting the organization and its mission/vision – We want people to use art to help us fight for clean water and sanitation.
Why South Africa – Where is KwaDick?
The need exists. There are villages and regions all around the world that are in need of clean water and sanitation, but we have to start somewhere. We decided to invest in KwaDick because they have the need and we have trusted relationships with local partners. How much of every dollar goes towards building the well?
100% of all submission fees go towards the direct costs of building & maintaining the well in KwaDick
How much does it cost to build a well?
Wells cost anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000 dollars. Depending on how deep the contractors have to dig, the costs could increase – deeper wells costs more $$'s.
Who will be building the well in KwaDick?
We always want local businesses investing in the community. Local contractors from a larger town in the area will build the well in conjunction with our friends on the ground in KwaDick. This year, our friend and partner Darrell Agee with Oceans of Mercy will help us coordinate, build and maintain.
What organization are you working with to build the well?
All funds raised will be donated to Oceans of Mercy (501c3), an organization highly invested in the Eastern Cape and more specifically, KwaDick. They have invested time and energy in the area and have built solid relationships within the local community. In addition, Oceans of Mercy is located right in our backyard in Shawnee, Kan. (only about 30 minutes away).
How many photos may a contestant enter?
There is no limit to how many photos one contestant can enter – submission fees vary depending on the number of entries. See our Official Rules on the "Submit" page
Are there any events associated with River to Well Photo Competition?
Yes! The River to Well Photo Competition Exhibition will be on Saturday, October 2nd 2010 @ Signs of Life Gallery. Be sure to check the "Event" page for complete details.
How will I know if I am a winner?
All winners will receive an email notification that s/he has won after all judged has been completed by the River to Well Judging Committee. Winners will receive instructions on where & win to pick up prizes.
Will you return my photo after the competition?
River to Well will keep all submissions. If you have specific questions about this, please refer to the Official Rules on the "Submit" page or e-mail us at questions@rivertowell.com.

The 2010 RTW Team is comprised of a group of talented friends who have a passion for the arts and an even deeper passion for people around the planet.
